When Loyola Academy takes the field this year, they will have confident class of 2023 quarterback Jake Stearney on the roster. Stearney has spent all offseason prepping for the upcoming season with the hopes of becoming the varsity starting quarterback.
“In order to become the starting quarterback at Loyola Academy I have to study and know my playbook inside out. As a sophomore on the varsity team I have to be humble.” said Stearney.
The talented signal caller has entrenched himself in a quarterback battle this summer. Stearney hopes to unseat an upperclassman to take the first snaps under center week 1.
“I have to become more of a vocal leader and play my game. By doing this I believe that I will get the opportunity to start on varsity.”
As a freshman Stearney threw for 1,939 yards and 26 total touchdowns.
Loyola Academy is regarded as one of the top programs in the entire state of Illinois. Stearney is aware of the difficult road ahead for him and his teammates.
“I believe that I have to work with my teammates to create an explosive offense that will be very effective the first week that we can carry into the playoffs. With the team we have this year I believe we will be a big threat to all teams this season.”
This offseason Stearney played with the 15u BOOM program for the first time in his career. He helped the program win a pair of regional tournaments and finished runner-up for the national title.
“I tried out for BOOM because I wanted to play the sport I love with the best competition around the state in an elite program. I believe the biggest improvement I’ve seen this offseason is my quick decision making.”
BOOM has a rich tradition of helping produce some of the top quarterbacks in the state. During the 2020 recruiting cycle BOOM had quarterbacks Mark Gronowski and Brady Cook sign with Division-1 programs.
